I’m excited to announce that my song “CLOSER” is finally coming out this Friday (11-15-24). I’ve been working on this one for a while, and I wanted to give you some insight into the creative process behind it.
“CLOSER” is a song that explores feelings of insecurity, unhealed trauma, and self-awareness—those moments when you realize you’re not quite ready for something serious, even though you desperately want to be. The song was written with my close friend and talented producer, Aden Gray, who’s also my roommate. Working together has always been such a natural process; we’ve spent countless hours talking through ideas and refining our sound. This song emerged out of a deeply personal space, and it was a process of reflection and growth.
The creative vision behind “CLOSER” was to take these complex emotions—feelings of not being able to fully give yourself to someone—and wrap them in a sound that contrasts the heaviness of the lyrics. The song is dance-pop, upbeat, and energetic, even though the lyrics themselves carry a sense of vulnerability and conflict. It’s a mix of emotional complexity with an infectious beat that I hope makes you want to dance and reflect at the same time.
Some of my favorite lines from the song really encapsulate that internal struggle. In the chorus, I sing,
“My soul is in your pocket but I can’t give you the person that you wanted, who’s everything I’m not.”
These words reflect the realization that sometimes we can’t be the person someone else wants us to be, even though we care for them deeply. The lyrics continue,
“I guess I need closure, but I want you closer now.”
—a feeling I think many people can relate to, where we crave resolution but still want to hold on, even if we know it’s not the right time. I think it’s powerful to write about feelings even if we aren’t proud of them. It’s how we connect with people.
“CLOSER” is a reflection of that complicated emotional space, and I’m so excited to share it with all of you this Friday. It’s a song that blends vulnerability with contagious energy, and I can’t wait for you to hear it. Click here for a sneak peek!
